ABOUT ABOUT

In the words of the late whisky writer and legend, Michael Jackson, Ardbeg is “noted as being the most overtly peaty of the Kildalton Trio” (Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg). Ardbeg’s recent resurgence is more of a resurrection, as it was the number one producer on Islay during the mid 19th century. Similarly, Tobermory and its evil twin, Ledaig, have also experienced a resurrection having been closed for nearly 42 years after it’s construction. Surrounded by an abundance of kelp and seaweed it’s no surprise the Isle of Mull is home to some of the briniest and grimiest peat bogs. As such, Ledaig is perhaps the most polarizing whisky on the market. In this tasting we will compare Ledaig and Ardbeg, their whiskies, their companies and their histories, tasting and noting the similarities and differences of these two peat bombs.
